Take a fascinating look inside the lives of people whose inability to part with their belongings is so out of control that they are on the verge of a personal crisis.
Whether they're facing eviction, the loss of their children, jail time, or divorce, these hoarders are desperately in need of help. In each 60-minute episode of Hoarders, A&E follows two people struggling to overcome their compulsive behavior while experts work to put them on the road to recovery. For some, throwing away even the tiniest possession a sponge, a button, an empty box is so painful that they won t be able to complete the cleaning process...no matter the consequences. For others, professional help and an organizer's guidance give them the strength to recover. At the end of each episode find out who has been able to keep their hoarding behavior at bay and who, despite help, is still lost inside this painful disease.

My Review
Ok, so I’m guessing we all know someone who has a hard time parting with just about anything. I’m wondering if it’s on the scale of the people featured in Hoarders by A&E.
I was astonished to see the conditions of some of the homes that these hoarders live in. I’m not a neat-nick by ANY stretch of the imagination, but my messiness doesn’t even scratch the surface of what these individuals and families go through.
I found the psychology of the hoarders very interesting. Their emotional attachments to trash was striking to me! Not having the ability to throw away hundreds of empty water bottles, decaying food, or pet droppings piled up over the years has left these homes often times unlivable.
You will be fascinated by the people they feature on Hoarders, if you’ve never seen it before. The organizers and psychiatrists who come in really have a desire to help these people. It seemed to me that they weren’t able to accomplish much because of how deep these families were in their hoarding. It’s a good thing they offer help after the show as well.
It is hard to watch some of the hoarders struggle with their decisions. My heart just broke for some of them because they couldn’t let go of their hoarding even if it was good for them.

I’d like to thank Jelena from AttentionUSA for my review copy of Hoarders. The opinions of this DVD are completely my own. Others viewing this series may have different opinions.
I am the opposite of a hoarder. The only items that I have saved are cards that my children made for me when they were young.

Well, I'm a knitter, so I have a pretty big yarn stash - but I have made a commitment to only buy more once I've finished up some of my WIP's (works in progress) !

ReplyDeleteFor me it would be books. But then I go to my library bag sale every three months and buy about 8 bags worth. Now, I have read most of them. I either keep the best ones, donate the okay ones, and recycle the truly bad ones. So that by the time of the book sale, I don't have many left. I would keep more of them, but I don't have the room, and I know the seniors enjoy the books I donate.

I am not a hoarder but my father in law was-anytime he saw a sale he would buy at least 10 of the same items -even if he didn't need it. Over time you could hardly walk through his kitchen

I can't stand "hoarding" and each of our kids have a rubbermaid box to hold their keepsake items. That way, we don't keep anything other than the really important ones. I love this show though & would love to win the DVD!
