We’ve Done Good, How About You?

Do Good Today was the Do Good Day!

Rachel from Empowering Mommy stayed overnight last night and we talked all things bloggy. It was so great talking to another woman about something I love to do.

IMG_3063I turned the tv on to see what the weather was supposed to be like and the Today show came on. What’s the first thing I see? The NYC ladies standing outside the Today Show studios with their Do Good Day signs! It was sooo cool!

We woke all four kids up this morning and hit the road headed to The Science Museum of Minnesota. Thank goodness she had her GPS with her because we got there with only one little miscalculation.

IMG_3073We met the other moms who were part of our Do Good Day. Unfortunately, Marybeth’s son was feeling sick and she wasn’t able to make it. We were all pretty bummed!

Bob and his team at the Science Museum totally rocked! They had tables set up for us that we had the activities for kids to do, the seed packets, and the shovel & pails.

IMG_3071 Buddy, Doodle and I along with Rachel, Gracie and Gabriel headed up the mail level to hand out $1 bills and ideas for them on how to “Do Good”.

It was an interesting reaction to the kids handing out the dollar bills. People kept shaking their heads and saying, “No thank you.” We kind of got the idea that visitors to the Museum thought we might be part of a religious organization or that the kids were giving away their own money.

IMG_3070I walked with them and after the boys gave the $1 to someone I would tell them what we were doing. Who would’ve thought we’d have such a hard time giving away money?

Once people started seeing us interacting with families and children, they became curious. Earlier this week, Sarah had a stupendous idea: to encourage kids to plant the seeds and seed paper they were given they took home a shovel & pail! Great ideas abound with this group of ladies.

We weren’t able to giveaway all of our $1 bills so the ladies decided to donate the rest of it to a food shelf! These bloggers are always thinking!

IMG_3088 1 The families didn’t get much of a chance to get to know each other very well, because we were so focused on Do Good Day activities. Those ladies did such a great job! I was proud to be part of the Minnesota Team today!

I'd like to give a huge shout out to 77kids.com, themotherhood.com and The Science Museum of MN for making this all possible. The kids t-shirts, $77/blogger to hand out, and goodies were all given to each participant.

  1. Wow - that's awesome! What a great day. I like the TV w/ signs idea too (by the NYC girls). Wish we had thought of that.

  4. It was so nice to meet you! I was surprised at people's reactions to giving away money too! What a wonderful day. If even half of those people we gave dollars to do a good thing with it the world will be a much brighter place to live!

  5. I had so much fun yesterday! It's so weird that people were not wanting to accept money. I think it was Beth who said it was an interesting social experiment!

My camera is still not cooperating. I am so bummed I didn't get any pictures.

  6. I guess people in NJ are desperate for money, cause I didn't have any trouble getting people to accept it! :)

  7. How fun!! We had similar reactions with our dollars too ;-) I guess people are so used to others selling or pushing something on them.
I love all the sticky note messages though - what a great idea!
